I received a traffic ticket. What should I do?

There are several ways to resolve a traffic citation:

  1. To contest the citation, you may appear in court at the location, date and time provided on the digital citation. To access the digital citation, scan the QR code on the card issued to you by the law enforcement officer (see “About the QR code…” for more information regarding the QR code).
  2. Contact the court before the “Notice to Appear” date to make arrangements with the court, such as deferred disposition or defensive driving. Contact the court for more information.
  3. You may also resolve the citation by paying fines in full by the date provided:
    • You may pay online by clicking on the PAY FINE tab on the website: www.tickets.mytrusteddriver.com
The Trusted Driver payment portal, powered by Stripe, accepts credit cards, as well as various forms of mobile payment (Google Pay, Apple Pay). A convenience fee will apply.
Can I contest or challenge this citation in court?

Yes, you have the right to contest or challenge a citation in court. During the court proceedings, you can present your case, provide evidence, and argue why you believe the citation should be dismissed or amended. However, specific procedures and requirements may vary depending on the jurisdiction and the nature of the citation. Contact the court for information regarding instructions on how to contest a citation and seek legal advice, if necessary.

Are there any options, such as deferred disposition or taking a driving safety course, to mitigate the citation? Do I qualify?

To determine if you qualify for deferred disposition or a driving safety course, and if it’s an option for mitigating your citation, you should contact the court. They can provide guidance on whether you meet the eligibility criteria.

Note: While you may request deferred disposition or a driving safety course, it will be up to the judge to grant it. Always check with the court first to find out what your options are.

How much is the fine? Can I pay the fine immediately?

Click on the tab marked “Incident” and you will see the Fine Total there. If there is no fee listed, please contact the court.

This citation can be paid immediately if you choose to use the payment portal accessible through your digital citation. Contact the court for other payment options, which may not be immediate.

How do I request an extension to pay the fine?

Contact the court to make specific arrangements regarding your citation, such as requesting an extension to pay a fine.

Can I set up a payment plan?

Contact the court to discuss payment arrangements.

What are the potential consequences if I ignore or fail to respond to this citation?

An FTA (failure to appear) charge may be added in addition to your citation. After 60 days from the “Notice to Appear” date, the fine will go to collections. After 90 days, it is reported to the state’s “Failure to Pay” program – also known as OmniBase.

Are there any alternative options available to resolve the citation, such as community service?

An alternative option, such as Community Service, will be decided by the Judge. You will need to contact the court to submit a plea form, appear in court and speak to the Judge.

How long do I have to respond or resolve this citation?

You have until the court appearance date noted on your E-Ticket.

If you are unable to pay the fine in full, contact the court to make arrangements or to contest the violations. Do not ignore the citation!
